Metal Hammer Review.

•February 24, 2011 • Leave a Comment

Metal Hammer Germany posted a review of our show in Munich yesterday here MetalHammer.de

Sadly my German stretches to ordering up to 12 Bockwurst…So I asked around to see if anyone would translate the review for me and this is what came back…

(Thanks to the wonderful Eva-Maria Oelke for translating it for me)

It’s a thing like that with potty breaks.
For example, when it comes to Depeche Mode, one knows that on their concerts one can comfortably go for a wee between song 8 and 12. It’s their time for the B-Stock, literally.
This, however, doesn’t work for PRR, their spiritual foster childs. With “Fight Fire” they have only one bad song, and fortunately it is one of their shortest. So, when visiting Munich, you’d better jug not too much at the Hofbräuhaus and instead get high from the music of a band who, on their Munich gig, do more than justice to the advance praise they received.

Just like they did on their LPs the brits impress with their great facility, knocking out one divine melody after the other. PRR manage to make the most complex songs sound like fluffy pop music in the most positive way. Plus, with Chloe Alper, John Courtney and Jamie Willcox they’re equipped with three outstanding singers – every note fits, every sound merges to a sparkling Gesamtkunstwerk.
Consequently the band lets the music speak for itself, sparing the usual show effects. It doesn’t have much in to do with Rock or Metal in a strict sense – the four revolutioners seem more like quirky architecture students, designing big Prog-art instead of skyscrapers. But they never appear eggheaded or arrogant, which they prove with a casual chitchat at the merch table after their work is done.

If there’s anything to complain about, then it’s probably the way too short playing time of about 80 minutes. Whoever has such an enormous amount of gems in the chest after just three LPs should not scrimp with the stage time.
However, what’s left is the absolute recommendation to not miss the next PRR gig, no matter what. Not even the potty break.

Pictures of the gig can be found in the gallery.

PRR preview shows & Scala news…

•September 21, 2010 • 1 Comment

So…A lot has happened since my last update so I thought I would bring everyone up to speed with what is happening in camp PRR…

Firstly, thank you to everyone who came to see us at Waterpop, Koppelpop, Koko & Southsea Fest.
Despite the technical problems at Waterpop we really enjoyed playing the shows and showcasing some songs from the new album…which brings me nicely to my next point.

Next Tuesday (28th) we will embark on a 3 date album preview (micro) tour…We are hoping to unleash some more new songs for you all…If you’re itching to hear some new songs I would suggest coming along just for the sneak peak.

28th September – Gebaude 9 , Cologne.

29th September – L’International , Paris

30th September – Bitterzoet , Amsterdam

The Paris show is a FREE club show so get down early as we will be on stage at 8.30.

Also don’t forget our special show in London at the Scala on December 9th…We are happy to announce the first support for the show is Clean Bandit. Check ‘em out at http://cleanbandit.com/
The other support should be announced pretty soon.

I promise you this show will be something special, so if you only see us once I urge you to come to this show!!

Finally… If you didn’t know our third album Hammer & Anvil is released October 18th on Superball/EMI, here’s a little review from Classic Rock Magazine online…

Pure Reason Revolution have evolved from the Pink Floyd-inspired band of several years ago into a somewhat formidable combination of prog and dance. Hammer And Anvil (EMI) is their best release yet. It takes them close to Pendulum territory, but still keeps the band firmly in the prog scene. Yet another example of how to be individual and dynamic in 2010.

Morning! I’m back for another PRR update & this one is a biggun, so bear with me…

Firstly we all want to thank everyone that came to see us at Waterpop Festival. Apologies we cut the set a little short but due to a technical-day-from-hell we had no choice but to pull the last 2 songs. Despite the tech problems the festival was an amazing experience with a great atmosphere & the very best Dutch hospitality.

We have recently announced a few preview shows. At these shows we’ll be showcasing material from our 3rd album ‘Hammer & Anvil’.

Sept 17th Club NME, Koko, London

Sept 18th Southsea Festival – Wedgewood Rooms, Portsmouth

Sept 28th – Gebaude 9, Koln

Sept 29th – International, Paris

Sept 30th – Bitterzoet, Amsterdam

Dec 09th – The Scala, London

As the Scala show will be our biggest UK show to date & the finale of the tour – we thought we would make a grandiose occasion out of it. There’ll be an extended set with songs from all 3 albums…some you might not have heard live before, with some little surprises thrown in too!

The show will also be filmed & available soon after as a limited edition/numbered DVD available to advance ticket holders only at half price!

Here’s how it works; Just show your ticket booking ref number at the merchandise stall, leave behind your contact details along with £5 & soon after (around Jan 1st) you’ll receive your copy (signed if you want) with your name listed on the DVD sleeve. There will also be a small number of copies available on mail order £10 each (£12 outside UK) more details soon.

To book your tickets and reserve your DVD go to…

Ticketweb or call the 24 hour hotline- 0844 477 1000

NOTE: To reserve your DVD after “Add to cart” select “Yes” this will reserve a DVD but remember payment will be on the night, so hold onto your booking reference as proof of entitlement!

PRR April Update…

•April 29, 2010 • Leave a Comment

Now safely home, with batteries recharged and without an ounce of volcanic ash touching me, I figured I would stop by to update y’all on PRR happenings.

The tour with Riverside and Jolly was an amazing experience, both are great bands and so friendly, the shows went really well and it was great to get back out and play some shows after 9 months.
I just want to quickly extend a huge thank you to Riverside & Jolly for being great touring companions but most of all thanks to the crowds at every venue for being so welcoming and friendly.

Now we are back it’s full steam ahead to complete the album… and it’s not far off now…
Be prepared for a little PRR taster coming very soon.

Lastly…If you are planning on going to the Hoxton Bar & Kitchen show I would advise you not to leave it too late to book tickets. Tickets are selling well and it’s looking like it should be a great show.
